Dear Reader,
Welcome back, it’s nice of you to stop by. Again maybe? Fourth time in a row for some of you. First time for others. Isn’t that exciting?!
This month’s theme is adventure, in all of it’s reckless, chaotic, spontanious, sunburnt glory. After many months of uncertainty, fear and anger, sent in every direction, I wanted to give you a fun issue. I know it may date this issue more than the others, talking about the lockdown here in Sydney ending, and life beginning it’s crawl to normality, but maybe that’s a good thing?
One of the things I wanted most when I started Spineless, why I decided to create a print zine, is so I was able to offer people a tanglable piece of now. I like the idea of being able to capture a moment in time.
The content in it may be timeless, we’re not a newspaper after all, but I want it to be a record, in a final, unchanging form, of who we were, how life was, and what we made when life was how it is.
What were we feeling the moment we wrote our articles? How did it feel getting that finished magazine from the printer? How do you feel reading this right now?
I know for some, this has been an incredibly hard time in your life, I sympathise beyond belief. I hope that as the world continues to open up, you stay kind to yourself as you continue to grow and adapt to the changes coming.
Because the changes will come, even when Covid is a long forgotten relic of history, it’s part of being human. I hope you are able to grab life full force and throw yourself into whatever challenges come your way. I hope that as you do, as you change and grow, as you let life take you down whatever path it lays out for you, that you bring us along for the adventure.
Take the opportunities you’re given. The things that make you worried, and uncertain. The times you think “I don’t know about that.” Those are the times you should jump at. Don’t be scared, don’t double think, don’t let life pass you by. The times you make the most of the opportunities you’re given are truly when the most exciting adventures begin.
I hope you join us again next issue, for the big and little moments to come in the future. But for now, I hope you enjoy this issue, our own little adventure that our wonderful team has paved for you.
Remember to keep your luggage labelled and your passport close. Enjoy the ride.
