A(Slightly Biased) Movie Monsters Rating

The Mummy A classic monster that has had its hey day undoubtedly. Maybe the mummy thing has simply passed its prime, maybe it was the scorpion king franchise. whatever it may be, the mummy is a top tier monster and deserves to the talked about with the same reverence as Vampires and Werewolf. If not for the force that is the early Universal mummy films, then at least for the fact that the reboots from the late ‘90s had a young Brendan Fraser AND Rachel Weisz. 9/10

Bride of Frankenstein The fashion. The style. The personality. The philosophical analysis of nature, life and human existence. The Bride of Frankenstein really brings it all. It’s a shame that she is often passed over for her more famous counterpart, when not only does she bring more to the table, but the film (despite undeservingly making less at the box office) is a high increase in quality when compared to the predecessor from four years earlier. 11/10

Frankenstein’s Monster There, ok, we said it right. Are you happy? All you classic novel enthusiasts out there, ready to send a scathing email already, I see you. Although it can be debated which is even accurate, but I can’t be bothered right now. In a fair and balanced list, Frankenstein’s monster will undoubtedly get an incredible score, he truly is a classic when it comes to monsters. But this isn’t a fair and balanced list, this is my list, and simply due to the fact that if I hear “actually Frankenstein was the doctor” one more time I will literally go insane, he gets a -2/10. (And no, I am not taking criticism at this point in time.)

The Creature From the Black Lagoon Probably my personal favourite on this list, for no reason at all. I like the creepy factor to him, in terms of both design and mythos, and the movies amp that up to a very campy degree. It’s hard to shake the objective yuck factor to him, however. It adds to the monster vibe for sure, but in all honesty, it’s just gross. I know I literally just said that this is my list and I make up the rules, but I’ve had a change of heart in between writing the last two paragraphs. Fairness is key. Despite what my heart is telling me, I have to go for a middle road rating, 6/10.

The Wolfman While some people out there may not like dogs, I think it’s a fair statement to say they hold the less popular opinion. Many of you out there probably have dogs too, man’s best friend after all. What isn’t man’s best friend is a dog, wolf, man hybrid. Note, we are only talking about the Wolfman and not werewolves here; there is a surprisingly heated debate online about the differences between the two, so for the sake of simplicity we are separating them. Between the fur and the fleas, it’s hard to get over the fact that the Wolfman is a walking hazard. 4/10
